Areas We Serve
The short answer
TA Legal Group PLLC has one office, in Huntington, New York, and represents employees throughout Suffolk County, Nassau County, and all five boroughs of New York City. Where you work matters more than where we sit, because it decides which laws cover you and which court hears your case.
Where is the office?
The firm's only office is at 205 E Main St, Suite 3-2, Huntington, NY 11743. There are no branch offices, satellite locations, or meeting rooms elsewhere on Long Island or in the city. The pages below describe the courts, commutes, and local employment conditions in each area we serve. They are not additional offices.
Huntington sits on the Suffolk–Nassau line, which puts most of Long Island within a reasonable drive and Manhattan within reach by the Long Island Rail Road. Most matters begin with a phone or video consultation, so distance is rarely the deciding factor in whether we can take a case. If meeting in person is easier for you, contact us and we will arrange it.
Why does location matter in an employment case?
Location determines which laws apply to you. An employee who works in Brooklyn is covered by the New York City Human Rights Law, which is broader than both the state and federal statutes. An employee who works in Smithtown is not covered by the city law, but is covered by the New York State Human Rights Law and, in most cases, by federal statutes such as Title VII, the ADEA, and the ADA. The same underlying facts can therefore produce different claims, different damages, and different filing deadlines depending on the county line your desk sits on.
Location also decides your venue. A Suffolk County wage case might be filed in the Eastern District of New York in Central Islip, in Suffolk County Supreme Court in Riverhead, or with a state agency. A Manhattan discrimination case might go to the Southern District of New York, New York County Supreme Court, or the New York City Commission on Human Rights. Each path has its own timeline and its own practical advantages.
What kinds of cases do we handle across these areas?
The same practice applies everywhere we appear: wage-and-hour class and collective actions, workplace discrimination, sexual harassment, wrongful termination, retaliation and whistleblower claims, and severance and employment contract review. We represent employees and executives. We do not defend employers, so there is never a question about which side of the case we are on.
If your town is not listed below, that does not mean we cannot help. The list reflects the areas we write about in depth, not the limits of where the firm appears. Call 631.498.7984 or use the case evaluation form and we will tell you plainly whether your situation is one we handle.
Counties and Communities We Serve
Suffolk County
Babylon
Babylon is both a small incorporated village on the Great South Bay and the name of a 218,000-person town that stretches north to the Long Island Expressway, and the difference matters when you are figuring out where your employment case belongs. Babylon Village is also the end of the electrified LIRR Babylon Branch, so a large share of local residents work in New York City, which can put a more protective law in play. TA Legal Group represents Babylon employees from our Huntington office, about fifteen miles north.
Babylon employment lawyersCommack
Commack sits on the Huntington–Smithtown town line in Suffolk County, which means a Commack employee's case can end up in one of several different courts depending on where the employer operates and which law the claim arises under. TA Legal Group represents Commack employees from our Huntington office, about six miles west.
Commack employment lawyersHauppauge
Hauppauge employment cases are shaped by three things most towns do not have (the Long Island Innovation Park, a concentration of Suffolk County government offices, and the New York State Division of Human Rights regional office sitting on Veterans Memorial Highway). Where your case gets filed depends on where your employer operates and which law you sue under, not on where you live.
Hauppauge employment lawyersHuntington
If you work in Huntington or the surrounding Town of Huntington hamlets, your case will usually be filed in Suffolk County Supreme Court in Riverhead or in the federal Eastern District courthouse in Central Islip. If you commute into the five boroughs, New York City's Human Rights Law may cover you even though you live in Suffolk County. Our only office is at 205 E Main St in Huntington Village.
Huntington employment lawyersHuntington Station
Huntington Station employees are covered by federal law, the New York State Human Rights Law, and the New York Labor Law, and if you commute into the five boroughs, often by the broader New York City Human Rights Law as well. Where your case is filed depends on where your employer operates, not on where you sleep.
Huntington Station employment lawyersIslip
If you work in Islip, your case is most likely heard either in the federal courthouse at 100 Federal Plaza in Central Islip or in Suffolk County Supreme Court in Riverhead. Which one, and which law applies, depends on where your employer operates rather than where you live, and if you commute to a job in the five boroughs, the New York City Human Rights Law may cover you even though your home is in Suffolk County.
Islip employment lawyersMelville
Melville sits at the center of Long Island's densest concentration of office employment, so the employment claims that arise there span the whole range (overtime and misclassification disputes at Route 110 warehouses, hotels, and medical practices, and severance, discrimination, and retaliation cases at the corporate headquarters along Broadhollow Road). Most Melville cases are filed in Suffolk County Supreme Court in Riverhead or in federal court in Central Islip. We serve Melville from our Huntington office, roughly six miles north.
Melville employment lawyersPatchogue
We represent Patchogue employees from our Huntington office. Patchogue has its own courthouse on West Main Street, but it is a District Court with limited civil jurisdiction and it is not where most employment cases go. Those are filed in Suffolk County Supreme Court in Riverhead or in federal court at Central Islip, depending on which law you sue under and where your employer actually operates.
Patchogue employment lawyersRiverhead
Riverhead is the seat of Suffolk County, so the courthouse where most Long Island state-law employment cases are actually litigated (Suffolk County Supreme Court at 1 Court Street) sits inside the town. We represent Riverhead employees from our Huntington office, about forty miles west.
Riverhead employment lawyersSmithtown
We represent Smithtown employees from our Huntington office, about twenty minutes west on Route 25. Most Smithtown cases are filed in Suffolk County Supreme Court in Riverhead or in federal court at Central Islip, and where yours belongs depends on which law you sue under and where your employer actually operates, not on which hamlet you live in.
Smithtown employment lawyersSuffolk County
Suffolk County employment cases are filed in one of two places: Suffolk County Supreme Court in Riverhead if you sue only under New York law, or the federal Eastern District courthouse in Central Islip if you sue under Title VII, the ADA, the ADEA, or the Fair Labor Standards Act. Which one is right depends on the law you sue under and where your employer operates, not on which of Suffolk's ten towns you live in. If you commute into the five boroughs, New York City's Human Rights Law may also cover you even though you live in Suffolk County.
Suffolk County employment lawyers
Nassau County
Garden City
Garden City has two very different workforces (the professional-services and corporate offices along Stewart Avenue, Franklin Avenue, and Old Country Road, and the retail, restaurant, and hospitality workforce built around Roosevelt Field and the village's hotels), and each produces a different kind of employment claim. Garden City cases are filed in Nassau County Supreme Court in Mineola or in federal court in Central Islip, not in the village. TA Legal Group serves Garden City from our Huntington office.
Garden City employment lawyersHicksville
Hicksville is a Nassau County rail hub, which means an unusually large share of its residents work in Manhattan or Brooklyn rather than on Long Island, and that single fact often decides which law protects them and which courthouse hears their case. TA Legal Group represents Hicksville employees from our Huntington office, about eleven miles east.
Hicksville employment lawyersNassau County
A Nassau County employment case is normally filed either in Nassau County Supreme Court in Mineola, for New York State Human Rights Law and New York Labor Law claims, or in the federal Eastern District of New York courthouse in Central Islip, which handles the federal claims of both Nassau and Suffolk residents. Because Nassau borders Queens and a large share of its residents commute into the five boroughs, many Nassau County employees are also covered by the New York City Human Rights Law, which depends on where you work, not where you live. We serve all of Nassau County from our Huntington office, just across the Suffolk line.
Nassau County employment lawyers
Kings County
Brooklyn
If you work in Brooklyn, your case is most likely heard either in the federal courthouse at 225 Cadman Plaza East or in Kings County Supreme Court at 360 Adams Street, both in Downtown Brooklyn. Which one, and which law applies, depends on where your employer operates rather than where you live, and because Brooklyn is inside the five boroughs, the New York City Human Rights Law and the city's scheduling, sick leave, and fair chance laws generally cover you in a way they do not cover a worker in Nassau or Suffolk County.
Brooklyn employment lawyers
Queens County
Queens
Queens is inside New York City, so its workers get the New York City Human Rights Law (the broadest anti-discrimination statute in the state) on top of federal and state law. But a Queens resident who commutes east to a Nassau or Suffolk employer usually does not, and that single distinction changes both the law and the courthouse. TA Legal Group represents Queens employees from our Huntington office.
Queens employment lawyers
New York County
Manhattan
If you work in Manhattan, the New York City Human Rights Law almost certainly covers you, and it is the most protective employment discrimination statute of the three that could apply. A Manhattan case is normally filed in the Southern District of New York at 500 Pearl Street, in New York County Supreme Court at 60 Centre Street, or with one of three agencies (the EEOC, the State Division of Human Rights, or the City Commission on Human Rights), and the choice among them is not reversible.
Manhattan employment lawyers
Bronx County
The Bronx
The Bronx sits in a different federal court from most of New York City. Federal employment cases from Bronx County go to the Southern District of New York in Manhattan, not the Eastern District in Brooklyn or Central Islip. That single jurisdictional line, plus the New York City Human Rights Law, shapes almost every Bronx employment case. We represent Bronx employees from our Huntington office.
